SSS Supports Planned Mill Outage at New Afton Mine
SSS recently supported a planned mill outage at New Gold Inc.’s New Afton Mine in Kamloops, Canada. The engagement followed an initial site visit in July, where the SSS team worked closely with site personnel to gain a clear understanding of New Afton’s operational requirements and existing shutdown processes. This early collaboration laid the groundwork for a well-aligned and efficiently executed outage in October, which ran for approximately 84 hours and was centred on a SAG mill reline.
Throughout the outage, SSS partnered with the New Afton team to apply established shutdown planning and coordination practices. These included clearly defined work ownership, active schedule tracking, and consistent reporting to support decision-making during execution. Microsoft Project was used as a key planning tool to maintain schedule visibility across the outage window.
The outage was completed within the planned timeframe, with all work carried out in line with site safety standards and operational requirements. SSS’s role focused on supporting coordination and planning efforts, working collaboratively alongside New Gold personnel.
SSS continues to provide planning and advisory support to New Gold Inc. across maintenance-related initiatives, building on a strong working relationship and a shared focus on safe, reliable, and well-executed shutdown outcomes.
